Biography

My work examines the implications of plural or alternative readings of everyday information. It uses strategies of sampling, re-ordering and making inventories to reveal agendas hidden in the information's original format. Current research  at Chelsea College of Art looks at why an artist would choose to make work within the institution (specifically the museum or gallery), particularly under the guise of education or interpretation.

In Making Sense 2002, over a year long period I sampled images from free newspapers, re-proposing them as an installation and video dictionary. Book of the World (an alternative theory of evolution), an animation from 2004, sampled and re-ordered images from a 1940s encyclopaedia to challenge traditional ideas of progress. Dictionary from Memory,  2003 is a work that explores the idea that everyone carries their own dictionary in their head - a concept later developed in collaboration with the public at the De la Warr Pavilion, Bexhill (Choices, Choices, 2004). Making Sense of Politics an animation from 2005, was a combined image and text piece examining gesture and repetition in political debate. Current work examines the differences between collaboration and participation, particularly in the institutional site.
